the building sciencesBeneath the Surface

The difference that you haven’t
noticed, until now
It’s not enough that buildings simply look good. They also need to perform at a high level, long term. To ensure that your new home at The Winslow meets and exceeds the highest standards of quality and performs to the highest level, the finest materials and proven technologies and practices in Building Science have been employed throughout. Exceptional acoustics, in-suite humidifiers, and at-source water filtration are only a few of the many out-of-sight features that will ensure your home feels as good as it looks.

Controlled humidification improves the overall indoor air-quality of the suites, and enhances the health and comfort of its occupants. This helps prevent bacteria and viruses from developing in the air, fungi and mites, and reduces cases of allergic rhinitis, respiratory infections, and asthma. Maintaining balanced humidity levels also helps to preserve building materials, finishings and furniture. Keeping moisture levels relative to its environment helps decrease occurrences like gaps in wallpaper seems, floorboards, and furniture joints.

*Humidifiers will be built into the HVAC system, requiring no additional space or maintenance.

Schluter® Waterproofing System

A washroom waterproofing feature with lifetime warranty in all floors and wet wall surrounds at The Winslow, the Schluter® System allows floor tiles to stay dry and helps to prevent the potential for moisture absorption over time. It also reduces the potential for leaks, efflorescence, and mold growth.

Schluter® floor drain System

The Schluter® Floor Drain System is specifically designed to work with the Schluter® Waterproofing System via
an integrated bonding flange that adheres and forms
a waterproof connection at the top of the tile assembly.

suite acoustics

With the right measures taken, acoustic insulation can significantly reduce sound transmission and ensure the privacy that occupants desire in their living spaces. At The Winslow, additional acoustic insulation is designed to reduce sound transmission by over 50% compared to industry standards in both the Ontario Building Code and Sound Transmission Class (STC) ratings.

*Optional upgrades for an additional 3″ of acoustic insulation will be available to demising walls at no cost.

Acoustic insulation

The Winslow offers a free opt-in acoustic upgrade package that adds 3 of acoustic insulation to the ceiling and demising walls, buffering noise disturbances from adjacent neighbours. Beyond the industry standard flooring assembly, The Winslow comes equipped with an additional acoustic floor underlay between the concrete slab and your choice of hardwood flooring, providing an additional buffer between your home, and your neighbours’ above and below.

Window assembly

The Winslow utilizes a thicker window assembly to achieve improved sound attenuation and thermal insulation from the exterior, a standard feature that outperforms the Ontario Building Code requirement.

Designed to provide heating, cooling, and air circulation, the four-pipe fan coil provides several benefits to enhance quality of everyday life. In comparison to a heat pump, fan coil systems perform up to 20% more efficiently. Occupants can also anticipate reduced maintenance, with fewer parts to maintain. On a day-to-day basis, the four-pipe fan coil generates less noise, and provides both indoor heating and cooling all year round.

The ERV units in all suites help to bring fresh air directly from the outside into your home.
